Fly into Ponciano Arriaga International Airport (SLP), just 18 km (about 20–30 minutes) from downtown. Many guests fly into Mexico City (MEX) first and connect on a short domestic flight (Volaris, Aeroméxico, or VivaAerobus). Taxis, Uber, and private shuttles are readily available at arrivals—no advance booking needed, but Uber is often the easiest and cheapest option.
Pleasant and mild! Daytime highs are typically 74–76°F (23–24°C) with plenty of sunshine. Nights cool down to 48–51°F (9–11°C). It’s breezy with very low chance of rain. Pack light layers: sundresses, button-downs, or slacks for days, plus a light jacket or sweater for evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are a must!
U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport (valid for the entire trip). No visa is required for tourism stays under 180 days. You’ll complete a free or low-cost FMM tourist form (usually handed out on the plane or fillable online in advance). Keep the stamped FMM with your passport—you’ll need it when departing. Other nationalities: check with your local Mexican consulate.
San Luis Potosí is on Central Standard Time (UTC-6) year-round (no daylight saving time). In early October, this matches Denver’s time (MDT), so no jet-lag adjustment needed for most U.S. guests. Your wedding events will feel perfectly timed!
We’ve secured room blocks shown under the Travel tab with special wedding rates—book soon using the group code on the Accommodations page! The historic center is the most convenient area (walkable to many sights and close to the venue). If you prefer Airbnb or other options, downtown area is a great choice.
Uber or official airport taxis are the easiest (expect 300–500 MXN / ~$15–25 USD). Private transfers can be arranged through your hotel. We are not providing group airport shuttles, but the ride is short and stress-free. Download the Uber app before you arrive (it works great in SLP).
Mexico uses the Mexican Peso (MXN). ATMs are everywhere (best rates) and most hotels/restaurants accept credit cards. Bring some pesos for small vendors and taxis. Tipping is appreciated: 10–15% at restaurants, 20 pesos (~$1 USD) per drink at bars, and small change for hotel staff or drivers. Always tip in pesos when possible.
Yes—SLP is considered one of Mexico’s safer cities for visitors. Use common sense: stick to well-lit tourist areas, use Uber instead of walking alone at night, and keep valuables out of sight. The historic center and main parks feel very safe during the day. As always, we recommend checking the latest U.S. State Department advisory before travel.
Spanish is the main language, but English is widely understood at hotels, restaurants, the airport, and tourist sites. Download the Google Translate app (offline mode works great) for extra confidence. Locals are warm and helpful!
Water: Stick to bottled or purified water (tap water is not recommended). All venues and hotels provide it. Food: Try local favorites like enchiladas potosinas or zacahuil—delicious and safe at busy spots. Our wedding menu will feature regional flavors! Things to do: Explore the stunning Cathedral, stroll Parque Tangamanga, or take a day trip to nearby waterfalls (Tamasopo or Tamul—about 2 hours away). Many guests love the surrealist art at Museo Leonora Carrington.
We invite you to dress in formal attire or black-tie optional. For women, this includes floor-length gowns, ankle-length dresses, or elegant cocktail dresses. For men, we suggest a dark suit with tie or a tuxedo.
