Our Story

Once upon a time, in San Jose California, a girl named Julia preferred to stay at home reading her books, than go out and be social with other teenagers. However, on February 1, 2015, Julia's mom wanted her to attend just this one teen event at the Smith's house, because Bishop Daley would be speaking. Once there, and hardly knowing anyone, Julia stuck close to a friend. Until an overly friendly, red-headed boy decided to go over and talk to her. "I haven't seen you before; what's your name?" He asked, as Julia's journal recounts. "Julia." "I'm Xander, nice to meet you. Weren't you at the All Saint's Day party?" "Yeah." "I remember seeing you there. I asked someone 'who's that?' and they said 'oh, that's Julia' and I said 'another one?'. No offense." He hastily added. Apparently, that wasn't friendly enough for Xander. He decided to invade the perfectly fine seating arrangement of just Julia and her friend, by sitting down with them. Then he talked nonstop. Until he finally hit upon Julia's favorite topic. They both shared a love for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland, it was their favorite, and they had each ridden it over and over again. Xander gave Julia a high five. This information redeemed him. Julia noted in her journal that she was Sofie from Howl's Moving Castle, and he was Howl, swooping in to rescue her from the hordes of society. Which ended up being slightly prophetic, as those who have read the book can tell you. They ran into each other at various events throughout the following year, but then Julia ended up with her concussion and stopped attending events altogether. In 2017, a swing dance lesson clinic was held at Our Lady of Peace, which is where they ran into each other again. On the last day, they exchanged phone numbers and haven't stopped texting since. They arranged to hang out on September 23, 2017 at Julia's house. They spent the day hanging out, took a walk at Vasona park, then attended the first Student Council meeting that night. Every Saturday after that, Xander came over. They became best friends and talked all the time. They would text each other in the morning, hang out all day, and still have things to talk about over the phone while he drove home to Belmont in the evening. In January Xander awkwardly told Julia he liked her, and she severely rejected him. Julia's mom convinced her to remain friends. She came around to the idea of dating him in March though. On March 3, 2018 Julia and Xander went on their first date. The first part of the date was spent looking for sunglass clip-ons for Julia's blue block glasses. They ate at the Counter in Santana Row after they found them. It was definitely a date because they held hands while walking. On March 6, Xander asked Julia's parents for permission to date her. So they officially became a couple. Tragically, Julia's Grandma passed away the following day. They continued being best friends, hanging out and talking all the time. They took swing dance lessons together, joined Square Dance lessons, and went on beach days, hikes, Monterey trips, and adventures. On July 23, 2022 Xander took Julia on an adventure day to Monterey. He put together a scavenger hunt game. First, a riddle leading to a picnic lunch at Moss Landing. Then, she had to win Texas Hold 'Em to earn the next clue, leading to Kayaking on the bay. The next clue led to Revival Ice Cream. Followed by a game of hangman which led to Point Lobos. It was there, on the beach, that Xander asked Julia to marry him four times before she said yes. The final time was perfect, both of them in the ocean.
