Our Love Story

First comes missions, then comes marriage!

(From Julia's P.O.V.) The first time I met Wesley was at one of our STM (Short-Term Missions) meetings. Wesley and I were two out of nine team members who went to South Africa for a missions trip in the summer of 2025. At first, I didn't think anything of him, except that he was someone I was comfortable talking to. I became more acquainted with him at the meetings and throughout the trip, and it was then that I started to notice things that both intrigued and concerned me. He is boisterous, counter-normative, and fearless, while I am reserved and overly protective of my social space and atmosphere. Our relationship was fairly cordial with one another until one day, we jumped off a bridge and had a challenging moment. After bungee-jumping at one of the highest bridges in the world, we were to walk back on a floor made out of wired fencing, which struck fear in me. Wesley was walking behind me the whole time, just chatting away with no pause or end. This made me more anxious. This resulted in some conflict as our different personalities then came head-to-head. Shortly after that experience, I couldn't imagine ever having a normal conversation with him. I was sure that my relationship with Wesley would never be the same again, and little did I know that that was going to look entirely different than what I had expected. Wesley had asked for my forgiveness the following day. After we reconciled, we maintained a consistent friendship, which then grew into mutual romantic interest. Because we were on a missions trip, we were solely focusing on our duties before us. Furthermore, we were on contract not to engage or entertain the idea of a romantic relationship until the end of our service. We honored that commitment, and what followed was a connection and bond that the Lord clearly orchestrated. The Lord allowed Wesley and me to meet, become acquainted, experience conflict and forgiveness, and develop a friendship rooted in genuine love. I am reminded of the Lord’s hand in our story and even His sense of humor in how it all unfolded. We are beyond grateful for everything He has done in our lives and give Him all the honor, glory, and praise. We are thrilled that we can share our story with our loved ones and grateful for everyone who walks alongside us on this journey!
