FAQs

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Cocktail attire for both the ceremony (2:00 PM) and reception (5:00 PM). Smart casual is requested for the Friday Welcome Drinks, and casual is fine for Sunday Brunch. A note on footwear: cocktail hour and the Friday evening event are weather-permitting on the lawn at Ram's Head Inn — we recommend keeping that in mind when choosing your shoes (stilettos on grass can be tricky!).

Question

Where is the ceremony, and how do I get there?

Answer

The ceremony will be held at Our Lady of the Isle, 5 Prospect Ave, Shelter Island, NY 11964, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 15. The church is within a five-minute walk from The Chequit hotel. Please note that transportation will NOT be provided to or from the ceremony — guests are encouraged to walk, drive, or arrange their own ride.

Question

Where is the reception, and how do I get there?

Answer

The reception is at The Ram's Head Inn, 108 South Ram Island Drive, Shelter Island Heights, NY 11965, beginning at 5:00 PM. A shuttle will run from The Chequit to Ram's Head Inn at approximately 4:15 PM and 4:30 PM. Following the reception (ending at 10:30 PM), shuttles will return guests to both The Chequit and the ferry.

Question

What happens between the ceremony and the reception?

Answer

There will be a brief interlude between the ceremony (ending ~3:00 PM) and the reception (starting 5:00 PM). We encourage guests to relax at The Chequit's café or restaurant, grab a drink in town, or explore Shelter Island during this time.

Question

How do I get to Shelter Island?

Answer

Shelter Island is most easily reached via the North Fork Ferry from Greenport, NY. The ferry runs continuously from 5:15 AM to 12:45 AM, with boats arriving every 10 minutes. The crossing takes about 10 minutes. Fares are CASH ONLY: $16 for vehicles, $3 for walk-ons. No reservation is needed — it's first come, first served.

Question

Should I bring a car to Shelter Island?

Answer

Yes, we recommend it if possible; a car is the most effective way to get around the island. The Shelter Island Taxi service is also available if you prefer not to drive. If bringing a car on the ferry to Shelter Island, no advance reservation is needed.

Question

What are the best options for flying in?

Answer

If flying in, renting a car or carpooling with another guest is the easiest way to get from the airport to Shelter Island. If flying into JFK, you can also take the AirTrain and the Long Island Railroad all the way out to Greenport — drop-off is right in front of the ferry to Shelter Island. No car needed!

Question

I'm driving from New England — any tips?

Answer

Great news: you can skip the long drive through Connecticut and across Long Island! Take the Cross Sound Ferry from New London, CT to Orient Point, NY — this can save 4† hours of drive time and comes with scenic lighthouse views. From Orient Point, it's just a 15-minute drive to Greenport and the Shelter Island ferry. We recommend booking your car spot on the Cross Sound Ferry well in advance.

Question

Will there be a shuttle to and from the reception?

Answer

Yes! On Saturday, August 15, a shuttle will depart from The Chequit to Ram's Head Inn at approximately 4:15 PM and 4:30 PM. Return shuttles from Ram's Head Inn to The Chequit and the ferry will run following the reception at 10:30 PM.
