A Thousand Cranes - Origami

A Special Invitation to Be Part of Something Meaningful

In Japanese tradition, folding 1,000 origami cranes—known as senbazuru—is a symbol of hope, healing, and well wishes. It’s believed that the act of folding them is a prayer in itself—each crane holding a wish or intention for peace, love, or remembrance. Origami cranes have been quietly present during many meaningful moments in Julia’s life. They’ve symbolized strength in times of change, comfort in grief, and hope in love. Most importantly, they connect her to her mom, who introduced her to the art of origami and whose spirit and love are very much a part of this day—even though she can’t be with us in person. As Julia and Nathan celebrate their marriage, they are incorporating these cranes into their ceremony and décor as a symbol of their love, hopes for the future, and the presence of those they hold dear. They’d be so honored if you would help them fold cranes as a way to add your love and intention into their wedding day.

How You Can Participate

Folding cranes is completely optional, but if you’d like to join in, here’s how you can be part of it: 1. Let us know you're in! When you RSVP for the wedding, let us know approximately how many cranes you’d like to fold (5, 10, 25—whatever feels good to you!). 2. We’ll mail you everything you need. We’ll send you the origami paper, simple instructions, and a stamped return envelope so you can easily send the folded cranes back to us. 3. Need a tutorial? There’s a great step-by-step video below! (It’s easier than you think—and a really peaceful little activity.) 4. Send them back flat. Just fold and gently flatten them so they travel safely back to us in the envelope we provide, we’ll poof them up once we receive them.
