Julia and Josh’s story begins long before they ever spoke. Both spent their childhood summers at sleepaway camp in Maine, moving in the same circles but never quite crossing paths. Years later, at 19, they each found their way back to Maine—Julia fresh off her freshman year at the University of Miami, and Josh having just graduated from Choate and preparing to start at CU Boulder—this time as counselors. Assigned as lifeguards and swim instructors at the pool, they were immediately drawn to each other, forming an easy, deep friendship that neither of them initially recognized as something more (despite everyone else seeing it). When they finally caught on, they fell in love quickly and wholeheartedly. What began as a summer romance turned into something lasting—through a stretch of long distance, a “not because of Julia” transfer to the University of Miami, and moves together from Boston to New York City—ultimately building a life side by side that started in the most unexpected, full-circle way.
