Believe it or not, we met online in 2014. We swiped right on each other, and then Evin left Julia hanging for 3 days. Julia eventually decided to shoot her shot while bored at a 4th of July party and thought "the worst thing that can happen is he doesn't respond." Well he did, and then we started texting non-stop. We met up for tacos and beer about 2 weeks later and have been inseparable ever since!
After a year of dating, in 2015, we decided we wanted to move away from Las Vegas when Julia finished TFA. We started looking at jobs and decided whoever got a job first in a major city, we would move there! We ended up in Denver, CO, where we lived for the next two years. Once we started feeling antsy for the west coast, Evin started applying to jobs in California. We thought it would take 3-6 months but it took about 2 weeks for him to land a role that moved us to San Jose, CA. After about 6 months in San Jose, we decided to move to Oakland because Julia got a new job in San Francisco! Now, after 3.5 years in the Bay Area, we've bought a house just outside Denver, CO, where we plan to stay.
Our anniversary is the 4th of July, so for our 6 year anniversary, we went on a backpacking trip up in the Trinity Alps in Northern California, one of our favorite places in the world. We went up with the intention of hiking up to a lake on the first day, sleeping one night, and hiking back the next day. The hike up was SO HARD and we were huffing and puffing for the entire 6 miles uphill. It took us way longer than we anticipated but we got up there, and the lake was absolutely spectacular. We spent the afternoon sunbathing, swimming, and hanging out. The sun started to set and we watched the sunset go down while eating some peanut m&ms and burrito bowls. We started to clean up for the night and I (Julia) went to cache the bear canister away from camp. I saw Evin kind of following me and I didn't know why. He kept looking around and being weird- but I followed him back to camp. When we got there he pulled the ring box out of his pocket, knelt down, and asked me to marry him! I said yes, and then we spent the evening being excited and happy for being engaged!
