This trail offers some of the most scenic views of the lake. The trail goes south from Rubicon Point, around Emerald Point to Vikingsholm Castle. Moderate hike well suited for kids who might want to swim and cool off in the lake. If you make it to Vikingsholm Castle take a tour of this historic home or enjoy Emerald Bay Beach as the boats cruise into the bay. Bring your camera – this is one of Lake Tahoe’s best hiking trails on the West Shore. Meet at D.L.Bliss State Park at the lighthouse trail parking area, just after Pines Campground. Hike is 8 miles from D.L.Bliss to Emerald Bay State Park and back (4mi each way). It is an out-and-back trail, so people can turn around at any point and there are worthwhile views along the whole way! Listed as Moderate, but on the easy side of that. Fantastic views of Lake Tahoe and Emerald bay, plus beach points to dip your feet in if you want.
For a relaxing day on the beach
Easy trail that goes to the top of the tunnel over hwy 50. Well maintained, all ages to the base of the rocks that form the tunnel. Little more climbing there but still easy to get to top of rocks. WONDERFUL picture spot. Kid friendly for non-squeamish parents. This is a walking trail for sure.
