FAQs

Question

Is this a traditional wedding?

Answer

No :) As many of you know, we rarely do things by the book. Our goal for our wedding day is to host a fun party for our loved ones to celebrate our dedication to one another in one of our favorite cities on Earth. Julia will not walk down an aisle or wear white. We will not have a formal ceremony or sit down dinner (but we will feed you! promise). Whatever happens at other weddings probably won't happen at ours, but you can expect lots of dancing & drinking & merriment! We are focused on good music, good food, good booze, and good vibes. This event is not separated into ceremony with a reception after, it’s just one big party.

Question

How do I get to Lisbon and get around once I'm there?

Answer

We recommend flying into Lisbon's Airport (LIS). It's a 20-30 minute taxi ride from the airport to the center of the city. While Uber is available, we recommend downloading the Bolt app and using that instead. It’s the local app and can be cheaper. Plus, they pay their drivers more. Walking is the best way to see the city, but it is hilly. The subway is easy and affordable.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

That's up to your preferences and budget. We have a few suggestions in the "travel" section of the website. Roughly 8 million people visited Lisbon in 2024; needless to say, there's an abundance of hotels. We’re certain you’ll find accommodations that fit your needs, no matter your budget. We've also had luck with airbnbs and hostels.

Question

Do I need a visa?

Answer

No, but you will need to fill out an ETIAS form before traveling (https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias/ltr/about-etias/what-is-etias#etias-in-a-nutshell).

Question

Do I need to learn Portuguese?

Answer

If you want! But it’s not necessary. The people in Lisbon are used to tourists and almost all of your servers, hotel staff, and store owners etc will speak English.

Question

Should I stay and travel around Portugal after your wedding?

Answer

Yes! Portugal is SO COOL (that's why we picked it). Some ideas: Porto - the city of Port (the after dinner drink)! Anywhere in the Algarve - The Algarve is the southern most beach-y region of Portugal. It’s home to many adorable beach towns. We’ve been to Lagos -- a charming little surf town with incredible beaches -- and it was spectacular.
