Living near the Northern California coast, we're lucky to be neighbors with some of the world's biggest redwood trees. Enjoy a walk among some real giants at Armstrong Woods, and afterwards, check out the riverside, bohemian town of Guerneville.
Some say (namely, groomsman Alec Knapp) that Bodega Bay is the foggiest place on planet Earth. Others know is as the local seaside town with saltwater taffy, crab sandwiches and clam chowder, and some of the best coastline the state has to offer. Check out the newly opened nature area Estero Americano Coast Preserve for an awesome hike.
Another Santa Rosa claim to fame is that it was home to the creator of Peanuts comics, Charles Schultz. There's a wonderful family-friendly Peanuts museum in Northwestern Santa Rosa, with Snoopy's Home Ice rink and the Children's Museum of Sonoma County right next door.
Annadel is a local favorite state park. Take a short walk around Spring Lake, or take a longer hike up into the hills towards Lake Ilsanjo. On any given Sunday, there's a good chance you'll find Ken (father of the groom) somewhere out there on his mountain bike.
