The time was spring 2021 and one might say it was the era of peak dating app success stories— before they went stale. Nonetheless, these two singles didn’t have any luck- yet. Both Julia and Aashray had stumbled upon each others profile, something caught their eyes, and they “liked” each other. Pictures prompts, and the usual fluff on the page, but each seemed to see something more in the other. Aashray reached out to Julia with a play on her love for ketchup packets. Excited that someone had noticed, she was instantly intrigued. He didn’t beat around the bush, he asked to meet up for a first date. The first date on a Sunday in May turned out to be a rainy one, and the two lived far from each other, 40+miles, a long trek. The plan was brunch and Julia set off on the long journey downtown to Houston from the Woodlands. Arriving with a panda umbrella in tow, she still remembers entering Crisp and walking to the booth; she fondly remembers seeing the kind, handsome face in front of her, and a gentleman standing up to greet her. His kind smile and warm eyes drew her in, and they had great conversation throughout the meal. Aashray enjoyed it so much he wanted to prolong the outing, and invited Julia to the Natural Science Museum for some more time together. Observing the museum and seeing the exhibits allowed the two to get to know each other a little better. Even after, they didn’t want the day to end, and grabbed tacos from a nearby Mexican place. The next weekend, they saw each other again, and the next weekend, and the next. And they’ve seen each other almost every weekend since.
