Our Story

Julia & Sebastian met on the first day of college during a Freshman Outdoor Orientation Trip (FOOT). Julia was supposed to be in a different group, but at the last minute was switched into Sebastian’s. Julia calls this the invisible string theory. Sebastian calls this a coincidence.

Julia found Sebastian hilarious after he did the ‘whip’ dance move to make her laugh. From then on, she made sure to hike near him for the rest of the FOOT trip.

Julia and Sebastian quickly became best friends. When Julia discovered Sebastian was bilingual, she asked him to help with her Spanish homework… mostly as an excuse to spend more time with him.

When Sebastian’s grandma first spotted Julia on Facebook, she wanted answers. "Who is this?"

Meanwhile, his other grandma was busy conducting her own in-person interview.

On December 11th, 2015, Sebastian asked Julia to be his girlfriend. This is how she chose to share the news.

Julia and Sebastian went to many college formals together...

dressed up for many Halloweens...

studied...

and continued to hike together.

Who’s gonna tell this poor boy we’d still be here 10 years later?

Julia and Sebastian feel so lucky to have gone through college together. They shared the best four years and are so grateful to have experienced that chapter with one another.

For their college graduation trip, Julia and Sebastian traveled to Italy. They visited Rome, Venice, Cinque Terre and Florence, and that trip marked the beginning of their love for traveling together.

After college, Julia started dental school at UCLA.

Sebastian joined Julia in Los Angeles to work in investment banking at Bank of America. He still works there :)

During the pandemic, Sebastian moved into Julia’s family home. It took him no time at all to get comfortable. Julia's mom still calls their living room 'Sebastian's office.'

After attending Sebastian’s sister’s wedding in Mexico City, Julia and Sebastian knew that was where they wanted their wedding to be. They feel very lucky to have Valeria and Spencer guiding them through the process.

Julia and Sebastian moved in together and loved their apartment in Santa Monica. They look back on this year of living together as one of the happiest of their lives.

Julia and Sebastian love nothing more than a date night. Particularly at Rosti. Particularly with a bottle of red.

Julia matched to UNC in Chapel Hill for her Orthodontics residency. She was excited and grateful, but knew the next 3 years of long distance would be hard. However, they had no doubt they could do it.

After countless flights, phone calls, and virtual date nights, Julia and Sebastian will have officially survived 3 years of long distance! Julia graduates from UNC in May 2026 and will be moving back to LA to practice as an orthodontist.

One night at dinner, Sebastian handed Julia a card. Inside was a map with Spain circled - his way of surprising her with a trip they’d take together that summer.

They visited Madrid...

San Sebastian...

and Barcelona.

And as some may have suspected...Sebastian asked Julia to marry him :)
