Jules and Amos first met in the winter of their freshman year at the University of Michigan. Jules had become close with a group of guys in a fraternity that Amos would soon rush, and before long, they had a whole circle of mutual friends. They quickly became close — the kind of friends who went to football games together and spent hours just hanging out. Jules would even bring over her paintings and work on them in the house where Amos and his friends lived. After college, life took them to opposite coasts — Jules to Los Angeles and Amos to New York — but they always stayed in touch. Whether it was a bicoastal summer or a quick work trip, they never missed a chance to catch up. Jules hosted Amos at her house just weeks after buying it (but nothing happened!! they were still just friends!), and Amos got a proper send-off to business school from Jules herself. At some point, Jules realized she had a crush on Amos… but didn’t say a word for two years (classic!). Instead, they continued to cross paths in each other’s cities — including one summer when Jules worked in New York and made sure to be the first to arrive at a picnic Amos was hosting, just for the chance to get a little extra one-on-one time. The next summer, knowing she’d be in New York again, Jules decided it was time to see if maybe… maybe there was something more there. One night, after a mutual friend’s birthday dinner, Amos pointed to a jazz club and said, “This place is really cool — I’d love to go on a date there sometime.” Jules quickly replied, “How about with me?”— Jules recalls Amos having the most animated double take she’s ever seen. It turns out, they were both on the same page. Things moved quickly after that. Even though Jules was headed back to LA at the end of the summer, Amos was ready to make things official. A year of long-distance dating followed, full of red-eye flights, FaceTime calls, and countdowns to the next reunion — until Jules finally moved to New York to be with Amos. Today, they live together in NYC with their two cats (and hopefully soon, a dog!). Amos proposed by blindfolding Jules and taking her to the French Alps, where he got down on one knee beneath a waterfall. It was worth the wait.
