Truckee has a bustling, highly walkable downtown area known as Historic Downtown Truckee. Centered along Donner Pass Road near the historic train depot, the area blends Old West architecture with modern boutiques, art galleries, and acclaimed restaurants.
Emerald Bay, located on the southwest shore of Lake Tahoe, is famously known for its striking, crystal-clear turquoise waters and dramatic panoramic vistas. Designated as a National Natural Landmark, it is easily one of the most photographed locations in the United States. There's even a castle.
Gently sloping beaches, crystal-clear water and interesting rock formations allow for wonderfully sublime swimming, kayaking and scuba diving at Sand Harbor.
Grab lunch at Sunnyside. Beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and be sure to get the Hula Pie.
Head over to Nevada and put it all on black. Or red. The Casino at the Hyatt in Incline Village is on the lake, South Lake Tahoe has larger casinos but is a bit further of a drive south from Truckee. All on the Nevada side of course.
