John and Lucy met at the College of William & Mary in the fall of 2011. Both being huge band geeks, they became friends over the course of countless rehearsals and musical events. In March of 2012, the Wind Ensemble they both played in went on its annual tour to Miami. Over the course of the four-day tour, John and Lucy were inseparable. The relationship took off when John asked Lucy if she wanted to switch bus buddies on the 19-hour long bus ride home, and she agreed. One week later, they were officially dating, and "Jucy" was born!
On the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, 2017, Lucy and John decided to go explore the city of Boston, to show each other their favorite spots and enjoy a beautiful day. When John decided to wear a blazer for the occasion and wouldn't let Lucy walk on his left side (where he was keeping a ring box safe and secure), Lucy decided not to ask questions and let the day unfold as it would. After a delicious stop at Kane's Donuts in the financial district, the pair wandered over to Fan Pier on Boston's beautiful harborwalk. Enjoying the peaceful views of the harbor, the couple found a bench to relax on. They were chatting about the various harbor views, when John interrupted the conversation with an, "Okay, I have something I need to do," and got down on one knee. After saying a few beautiful words (and making Lucy cry), he pulled out the ring, and Lucy said yes. The newly affianced spent the rest of the day walking around their home city calling family and friends, and ended the day with a delicious celebratory dinner at Boston's Top of the Hub restaurant.
