The year was 1996, the place was the University of Texas at San Antonio Downtown Campus back before there was an actual Downtown Campus and UTSA just rented office space in a building off Main/Cypress. We definitely noticed each other, maybe ever flirted a little bit, but the timing wasn't right just yet. We would stay in touch over the years, with random hellos here and there. Fast forward to 2015, fate intervened and put us one street apart from each other when she moved into his neighborhood. From there acquaintances became friends and friends became a couple. Look at us now!
He had the ring for months and was just waiting for the right moment to ask the question. There was a plan that involved the Riverwalk, but it wasn't meant to be. With the entire Family on vacation in Chicago (yes, all the kids were actually able to make it) he knew that golden opportunity might present itself and thankfully it did. There was a beautiful evening boat tour that took the Family around the city and wouldn't you know it, a fireworks show would be on display above the water right about the time we would depart the boat. With all the kids aware of the plan, we picked a beautiful spot to watch the fireworks. As the fireworks began, all the kids pulled out their phones to record and slowly they began to walk away from the future bride to be. As they walked away, Juanita started wonder what was happening then and asking where they were going. As the kids converged all four cameras toward their Mother, Chris was able to slip behind her unnoticed, pull out the ring and get down on one knee. After some guidance from the kids, Juanita turned around and noticed the love of her life and the ring. He spoke to her, popping the question and the biggest smile he'd ever seen appeared on her face. She ran in with hugs and kisses while onlookers applauded and yelled their words of congratulations and encouragement. With that, were engaged!
