Because of his truck? Here's a bit of the background story... He's a Marine from Nebraska and she's a girl born and raised in California. He was stationed in Camp Pendleton where he worked along side Pinedo who is family to Rosalva. Pinedo referred Juan to her dad's business for his truck needs, where he then started to become a family friend. They met each other at her dad's shop. (Rose): I was walking to the bathroom and there was this unknown guy working on his truck which automatically caught my attention. I didn't want to show interest but I was indeed curious of who this was since I normally know everyone who has the privilege of working on their vehicles at my dad's place. I wanted to say something except I didn't allow myself to so I just hoped he would talk to me first. As I walked by I just smiled at him. On my way out, just my luck, he did talk to me and I didn't hesitate to stop and chat. I don't exactly remember what we talked about except for the fact he was telling me he was changing his brake pads. I also didn't want to seem easy to get so I tried to walk away from the conversation although he didn't quite let me go that easy either. We talked for some time in the moment and that wasn't the last time I'd see him again. He would be at the shop often and start coming around to family parties, and eventually I started inviting him to hangout with friends where we then became close friends. (Juan): I was working on my brakes at the shop and I saw this cute girl walking towards me and I looked at her and I thought to myself, "dang, that girl is beautiful". When she was leaving, I tried to come up with an excuse to talk to her so I just said, Hi and we talked. After our conversation that day, I hoped I see her again there.
The day we met, we didn't get each others names. It wasn't until one of the family parties that I was trying to get his attention, that I tried calling him, but I didn't know his name and that's when I realized it too (I soon found out that the didn't know mine either). All I knew about him was that he was from Nebraska so when I tried getting his attention I just called him by his home state. At first he didn't realize that I was calling him and when I said, "Nebraska!" he was surprised. I walked away after I called him that, and when I came back he then called me "Oceanside". And after that, those were our nicknames throughout our friendship. We never really did call each other by our names.
