Their journey began back in December 2017 at a mutual friends wedding, where the two first crossed paths. It wasn’t anything dramatic or even memorable at the time — just a brief encounter with little interaction. The wedding itself was thanks to Gaby, who is both Marta’s best friend/previous roommate, and J.C.'s cousin. Though the two didn’t really connect then, fate had a funny way of keeping them in each other’s orbit. After the wedding, they followed each other on social media, and while it didn’t spark anything right away, little did they know this would set the stage for what was to come. Fast forward to July 2020, when they ran into each other again at Gaby’s birthday party, hosted at her family’s restaurant. This time, there was more talking, more laughs, and more of that “hey, I kinda remember you” energy. The night ended with J.C. texting Gaby, asking, “Let me holla for a dolla,” after their uncle had called J.C. asking about the girl from the party (that would be Marta). It was at that moment J.C. realized, “Wait a second... I’ve been following Marta on Instagram for years!” So, he made the move — a message on Instagram, that quickly turned into an exchange of “being bums” on different levels. Anyone who knows Marta knows she’s a bit reserved and doesn’t open up to just anyone. But there was something about J.C.’s persistence and humor that caught her interest, and soon enough, the conversation flowed more easily. From there, the spark grew, and before they knew it, the two were making plans to meet up for brunch to continue the birthday celebrations. Though they were navigating the start of a long-distance relationship, it didn’t take long for them to realize that they had something special. The two continued learning about each other, growing closer even from afar, and the rest, as they say, is history. Now, here they are, excited to celebrate their love and commitment, and are so grateful to Gaby (and of course, the social media follow) for bringing the two together.
