Who doesn’t love shopping at Costco… minus the crowds and the craziness during the holiday season. I loved being at Costco so it was my first choice when I decided to go back to work after staying at home for 9 years. On my first day I was excited to meet new people and experience something a bit different than what I was ever used to. At the end of our first day we were sent to assist the cashiers and I got partnered up with Juan and his BFF Kelly… and man was it strange! My work background was primarily In-N-Out Burger where we give the best service possible to each customer so I was doing my best to give each Costco Member the best service. But Juan and Kelly were having the greatest time with each other, calling out random numbers as if they were craps dealers in Vegas! And the worst part was they were asking me to call out numbers and asking if I was going to “place your bet”. They were still friendly with the members but certainly having more fun with each other laughing hysterically while quickly tossing all their items my way as I was quickly trying to load each basket as neatly as possible and nervously smiling trying to ignore their shenanigans. I was so afraid a member was going to be upset that Juan and Kelly weren’t giving them all of their attention and I didn’t want to receive a “Quality of Service Complaint” on my first day! It was on that day that I learned two important facts; one, it’s really hard to get fired from a union job and two, chivalry wasn’t dead because the entire time Juan was having a great ol’ time with his bestie, he wouldn’t let me or any female member lift or move any heavy items. He was the most respectful and well mannered man I had met in a long time and that was the first thing about him that really caught my eye. But it took me a little while to want to assist for him and Kelly again anytime soon!
