Our Story

They say the greatest relationships are built on friendship, and now we get to see the benefits firsthand. Juan and I were strictly friends for about a year. We had known each other for years, he’s actually my best friend’s brother. But it wasn’t until I moved to San Antonio in 2021 that our story really began. His mom was the one who put us in touch so he could show me around. From the beginning, I felt a connection. He was kind, funny, and always up for trying new things, whether it was discovering random restaurants, sticking it out at a bar while the Cowboys were losing (and still holding a conversation), going to painting classes, or standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a crowd on the River Walk to get a Margarita. Not long after, Juan moved to Del Rio for pilot training. Once a month, he’d come back to San Antonio and we’d hang out. I’d spend Mondays telling my friends how frustrating it was that he still hadn’t made a move. And yet… every time he came back, I couldn’t wait to see him again. Finally, after he earned his wings, Juan told me he had feelings for me. I was thrilled. Then came the catch: he was moving to Florida in just five days. And just like that, our official relationship began. Military life hasn’t made things simple, but it’s made us stronger. We spent a year and a half long distance, lived together for six months, and then said goodbye again for a six-month deployment. Through it all, we’ve laughed, complained, celebrated, and supported each other every step of the way. And now, after all the miles, the flights, the delays, and the slowest love confession in history, I get to marry my best friend. We know the road ahead will bring challenges, but we’re committed to facing them together, supporting one another, growing together, and building a life full of love and laughter.
