Love comes when you least suspect it. It was during COVID and I was on break from school when I decided to try Hinge, an online dating platform. When we matched, my first thought was “wowza, that’s one good looking girl!” I had no idea that I was looking at my future wife. We instantly clicked and set up a video call because she wanted a vibe check before meeting in-person. Good thing I passed! And even though we had talked for hours on the phone, butterflies filled my stomach the moment before walking into Mud-leaf coffee. Then time flew! We spent the day talking and walking around Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. But, all of the sudden, my stomach started to hurt tremendously. It must have been the butterflies. We were pretty far into the park and I could barely walk. Janice had to help me all the way back to the front of the park where the restroom was. I don’t know exactly how long I was in there for, but when I came out the sun had already set. A single lamppost lit the nearby construction and wind flapped the tarp against the fence. I was afraid Janice left and there wouldn’t be a second date. When I turned the corner, there she was waiting for me. I would later learn this is who she is: supportive, patient, and someone who will always be by my side even when I’m in a dump. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life through the highs and lows with her!
I never knew what it would feel like to really love someone and want to call someone my forever person until I started dating Steven. Everything just made sense. As cliché as it sounds, when you find the right person, everything feels easy and you finally feel at peace. To me, that's how I knew Steven was the one I was going to marry and love forever. Our love story begins like many other stories nowadays...on a dating app, specifically, Hinge (thank you!). It was about a year into the pandemic when we matched. Later on, I found out he had to leave shortly after we met to go back to medical school out of state which was a huge bummer. For me, I was just about to delete Hinge for the nth time because online dating is hard. However, I'm so thankful he was my last match. I was optimistic because he seemed so nice when we first started talking. Before we met in person, just to be sure we didn't waste each other's time, I asked if we could video call first. Best green flag ever because we ended up talking for hours and set up our next video call a week later. It didn't take long for us to realize that we seem super compatible! We finally decided that we want to meet in person after his last exam of the year and to make it more easygoing, we chose to meet at one of my favorite places to work: Mudleaf Coffee. From there, we worked/studied, took a walk that had an unexpected twist, ate dinner, drove around to see Christmas lights, and lastly, ended the night talking for another few hours. In total, we spent 10ish hours together on our first date. If you don't call that meeting your best friend for life, I'm not sure what to call it then. I knew he was a special one. The only one that I'm so lucky to call mine for the rest of my life! I can't wait to marry you Steven!!! :)
1. We both said "I love you" about 2 months after our first date. It's true when they say "when you know, you know." 2. We are both down to do (almost) anything, but I'm the planner and he's spontaneous. 3. We both get each other's humor! We will never stop laughing with each other. 4. We both love the outdoors and hiking, but hate bugs. 5. Steven's the oldest sibling and Janice is the youngest sibling (can you tell?). 6. How Janice knew Steven was the one: he wanted to talk about our future together early on + it was so easy and fun to talk to him. How Steven knew Janice was the one: she went a car ride without saying anything to him and we sat there in silence + Janice went out of her way to visit Steven in OK, MO, and KS. :) 7. Even though Steven is spontaneous, he also plans the best and most creative dates! 8. Janice cannot live without coffee/energy drinks (mostly because she needs the caffeine) and Steven never wants to drink any coffee (he likes to remind Janice how she can go without it). 9. We both drive Toyota. 10. We both want a puppy (specifically, a Shih-Poo--a cross between the Shih-Tzu & Toy Poodle) and two kids in the future.
