The Proposal (Samantha's Version)

november 29th, 2019 - surprise, surprise

as you know, we currently live in de pere, wisconsin, which is a thirty minute drive to the farm. while that may not seem like a big deal to most, in farming world you'd think we lived across the country... so, needless to say, josh has been wanting to move closer to the farm since yesterday. we found a vacant lot (with no electricity) that we were soon to close on. it was the day after thanksgiving and josh (working) called me (lounging on the couch, crabby because josh was working) and said the current land owner wanted to meet to talk about a few things. annoyingly, i agreed (when you are (almost) 30 and dating for 4.5 years, everything is suspicious). after a pit stop at fleet farm (for who the heck knows what, but why wouldn't your engagement day include a pit stop at fleet farm), we made our way to the land. at this point, josh was exhaling pretty heavily (hint, hint to me). well, we get to the land, and it's pitch black and starting to lightly sleet (really makes for a perfect setting to talk business, i know). josh says we should get out of the car to wait for the current land owner, and, at this point, i'm not trying to ruin his (maybe) "surprise" so I comply. then, i get distracted as there is some weird sound in the background. josh mumbles it's the farm down the road and then starts yelling "hey!....hey!...HEYYY!" out of nowhere a sign lights up that says "marry me?" lucky for him, i said "yeah" and now he's stuck with me for life. shortly thereafter, out pops out his cousin who was in charge of the generator (aka the noise). we celebrated with close family and friends later that night, and it was wonderful. -samantha

The Proposal (Josh's Version)

november 29th, 2020 - perfection

the moon was brilliant, and the stars were bright. it was going to be an unforgettable november night. it was years in the making. literally, it took all my years of picking stones to find a diamond. i had turned the basement of our milking parlor into a mini workshop to create a light board that would say “marry me.” i wanted it to be a secret only me and the person turning on a generator and lights would know. as the night neared i tried to come up with the perfect plan. i would take her to a spot at night and the board would illuminate to her surprise. the time had finally come for the big question and, after a couple fibs, I had gotten her to the spot. i yelled for the lights. i yelled again. i yelled again. i yelled again. at this point everyone knew what was going on, including people 3 miles away because, at this point, I was yelling so loud. and bam there it was: “marry me?” I asked her the question, and i'm not really sure if she even said yes because the generator was so loud, but then she put the ring so I knew it was real! we then went to celebrate with friends, family, and busch light. it was the perfect night. i had the perfect celebratory drink for landing the perfect girl. -josh
