We met the summer before our junior year of High School after attending a classmate's Sweet 16. We were complete strangers, never knowing who the other one was prior to that evening. After a few months of talking and hanging out, we returned back to school and noticed our lockers were right across the hall from each other. We would pass each other notes throughout the first couple of months, talking about our classes and interests, when one evening Joe and his mom dropped me off at home and he handed me a note and told me not to open it until I got inside. In that note he wrote about being in math class, excited about watching the O.C. and a little drawing which was so distracting that I almost missed the part where he asked me to be his girlfriend.
We had embarked on a journey to Iceland - the land of ice and fire, so excited to make some new memories together. The tiny island in the Arctic Circle was absolutely beautiful, with every waterfall, glacier, geyser and beach taking our breathe away with every turn. During our trip, we were supposed to drive out into the night to try to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights but we encountered snow so it was postponed until the next day. When it came around to our second try, we were met with some heavy clouds, so our #1 bucket list item for our trip was cancelled. Joe scrambled for a plan B as he planned to propose under the Northern Lights. That evening we decided to walk around Reykjavik after dinner and bring dessert back to the hotel. Of course, I was trying to take a picture of our crepes and hot chocolate that I didn't even noticed Joe kneeling in front of me with the ring asking me to marry him. I cried, said "YES," and we were engaged!
Similar to our engagement, we now have to change our wedding day plans, but it doesn't matter because love isn't cancelled. We can't wait to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you! See you at the Church!
