The 640,000-acre Cherokee National Forest lies in the heart of the Southern Appalachian mountain range and is visited by millions of people each year. A remarkably diverse area, the forest provides habitat for 43 species of mammals, 154 species of fish, 55 species of amphibians and 262 species of birds.

Lee University, established in 1918 as a Bible training school by the Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee, has evolved into a nationally recognized institution. Originally serving the Church's need for trained Christian workers, it expanded from a single classroom to a full-fledged college, adding high school and junior college divisions along the way. By the mid-1980s, Lee embraced liberal arts education, leading to significant growth in enrollment and faculty. Today, with more than 5,100 students from all over the U.S. and 50+ countries, Lee offers 57 undergraduate majors and 56 graduate programs across six schools. The campus has grown significantly with over 23 major buildings added in recent years. Lee has also been recognized for its service learning, study abroad programs, and community service, ranking highly in national education lists and earning honors like the Templeton Foundation's recognition for character-building.
