And they're off! The Keeneland Fall Meet kicks off Friday, October 2 and runs through Sunday. Tickets typically go on sale in August through their website and you'll want to get them fast! They do go quickly, especially for opening weekend! General admission is a great way to experience it by viewing the horses at the paddock or along the rail, enjoy the fall atmosphere, and take in a full day of racing. They also have tours all year round to see the grounds and horses practice in the mornings. If you want to go on your own, you can walk in for free to watch the morning workouts from 5:30-10am.
If you want to see some horses in horse country, we recommend booking a tour from this site! They work with a lot of the farms in the area and you can pick a tour based on your interests whether it's petting mamas and babies or seeing some of the most famous race horses! Ask Jess if you need recommendations, we've done so many tours and all are amazing!
Take a few stops on the Bourbon Trail! There's so many great distilleries to choose from but here are some of our favorites that don't require a scheduled tour. - Woodford Reserve - JRs favorite! Tastings and cocktails are offered in the bar area of their gift shop. - Buffalo Trace - One of the most popular distilleries! Tours book months in advance but they have a fun tasting experience you can do without booking. - Castle & Key - Beautiful! They offer tastings and cocktails in a beautiful garden area where you can sit and enjoy the day. Must try their gin! Distillery District - this is a fun area in Lexington! Can walk around to a few small distilleries, enjoy ice cream at Crank & Boom and a giant slice of pizza at Goodfellas (Tony's favorite)
Jessica, JR and all our dogs love to go on a day adventure and enjoy the beautiful Kentucky scenery. Here are a few of our favorite hiking spots! The address listed is for the closest hiking spot with beautiful outlooks called The Pinnacles! We recommend doing the East Pinnacle and for those that can handle a steeper incline to add Indian Fort Lookout. Red River Gorge - located within Kentucky's Daniel Boone National Forest and about an hour away. Popular and known for its' natural arches and fall colors. Tons of scenic hiking trails, the most popular is the Natural Bridge. There's also underground kayaking and boat tours! https://gorgeunderground.com/ Cumberland Falls - located near where JR grew up, features the "Niagara of the South" waterfall. It is famous for the rare "moonbow" visible during full moons.
