How We Met Thanks to our friends Ian and Cassidy, we were set up on a blind date. Ian and JR went to high school and college together, and Danielle works with both Ian and Cassidy—Cass has become one of her very best friends in OKC. That week, they gave JR very little info but warned Danielle the date might be “meh” (they were secretly excited!). “Expectations: low. Excitement: high.” The First Date Our first date was at Halls Pizza Kitchen—best pizza in OKC. We talked for 2½ hours about everything under the sun and quickly realized this was something special. We shared about the journeys God had led us on, and it was cool to see how He had been preparing us for each other. After dinner, Danielle invited JR to her friend’s parents’ house to watch Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Huge thanks to the Kalfas family for being a part of our first date! That night lasted five hours, the next date six, and each one just kept getting better. Authenticity, open hearts, and becoming best friends—that’s how our love story began. “Five hours later… we still didn’t want the night to end.” The Engagement Through prayer, community, and intentional time together, we knew we were ready to choose each other for a lifetime. JR worked hard to make the proposal everything Danielle wanted—while still surprising her! Danielle had taken the week off from work for intentional rest and disconnected from everyone. On Thursday, they made plans to watch the sunrise—her dream engagement time, but she was not expecting it that day at all. JR prayed for the perfect sunrise, set up a video recording, and popped the question. “Sunrise, surprises, and a lifetime of yes!” About Us We’re two imperfect people who love the Lord and love people.
