They could say they locked eyes across a coffee shop, through the spaces on a shelf at a local book store, or an introduction between friends, but their meeting was more intentional than that. Ryan had moved across the country to pursue his dreams working in the film industry. Jasmine had moved a few hours south to pursue her dreams working with exotic animals. A mere two swipes right and poof! They came together by mere happenstance. That's right, they met on Tinder.
Ryan and I were visiting my close friend, Tiana, at her workplace – the Audubon Zoo, in New Orleans as part of the last day of a perfect Austin/New Orleans trip. Tiana tells me that we need to get to the siamang exhibit right away so we can watch the keepers switch them out. Excited, I followed her, and when I saw the siamangs walk out I immediately got close to the fence and watched until Tiana screamed at me that I could get a better view from another side of the exhibit. I followed, and when I turned the corner and saw my name on the sign, I was like "Oh cool, someone put in enrichment for them that happens to have my name on it." Then I realized Tiana had her phone up and Ryan was giving me a weird look. So I read the sign again: "Jasmine, will you enrich my life forever?" Oh. My heart pounding, blood racing in my ears, I turn to Ryan and say "Yes?" He pulls out a letter for me to read, and I probably read it a hundred times, but really didn't read it because I was in absolute shock. Finally he got down on his knee and popped the ol' question and duh, of course I said yes. In love, I was able to watch the siamangs take down and destroy the sign Tiana so lovingly made. What a dream.
