We’re getting married!

The Davis love story unknowingly began on the greatest website ever created, Twitter. They shared mutual friends and followed each other, where they both noticed they loved rapper, Dom Kennedy. Dom had a concert coming up in Atlanta, so Jerry reached out to see if Joyia was going - she was. Fast forward to November 16, 2012, the day of the concert and the day that changed the rest of their lives. Joyia spotted Jerry standing alone, and after some encouragement from her sister, went over to speak to Jerry. Jerry says he was blown away by her beauty. Joyia remembers his Beavis and Butthead sweatshirt and how tall he was in person. They both had a feeling that this encounter was different, special, meant to be. Before the night was over Jerry made sure they exchanged numbers and the rest, as they say, is history. From friends to lovers with the help of Dom Kennedy.

One day Joyia and I were talking about taking a trip somewhere. We both loved the idea of going to San Juan, Puerto Rico -- that's when I started planning for a big surprise. From the moment I met Joyia I knew there was something special about her and that God put us together for a reason. I started talking to my close friends about my idea and showed off multiple ring ideas to our friends, all while urging Joyia to solidify dates for the trip. I invited our close friends and family to join us in Puerto Rico. I am still shocked that she never found out. One of my friends was even on the flight with us to San Juan, but we played it off very well. Friday, July 12, was the day. I tried to play it cool and act normal all day. I rehearsed so many words and scenarios in preparation for the night. The day went by smoothly and it was finally time. We stopped by the beach as I waited for friends to settle in the restaurant. Joyia started to notice I was being a bit weird as we drew closer. Once I received word that our friends had all arrived, I asked Joyia to close her eyes and I walked her into the restaurant. My mind and heart were racing. I went blank and just dropped to my knees and asked her to marry me. I had a few tears in my eyes and nervousness I've never felt before. Through her tears, she finally gave me a yes and the celebration was on! We were officially engaged!
