Tim and Joy's journey began in 2017 through a scholarship program that opened the door to opportunity, growth, and love. As part of the program, they were invited to attend a leadership camp, a summer weekend filled with learning, inspiration, and new friendships. That’s where Tim and Joy met for the first time. On the final day of camp, during the closing ceremony, they were all paired with a partner for a follow-up exercise to help all the campers stay in touch. Tim, alongside his childhood friend (also part of the program), approached Joy. His friend mentioned that Tim didn’t have a partner, so Joy offered to be his. What Joy didn’t realize at the time was that Tim already had a crush on her. When she kindly offered to be his partner, she had no idea she was saying yes to the start of something so much more. That moment sparked something special. They immediately began texting, exchanging stories, dreams, and life updates. A real friendship took root, one that grew stronger over time. In 2019, they both returned to the same leadership camp. It was there that Tim, heart full of hope, shared his feelings with Joy and expressed his wish to be more than just friends. Joy wasn’t quite ready, but Tim remained a constant, patient, kind, and unwavering. As time passed, they found themselves spending more time together, whether it was casual hangouts with Joy’s little sisters or reconnecting during leadership events. Slowly, Joy’s heart began to open. In July of 2020 Joy’s older sister, Hope, passed away. Hope was a spark for all who knew her, from the expanse of her imagination to the depth of her personality. In the midst of grief, Joy realized how deeply Tim had been there for her all along. She saw clearly how perfectly he fit into her life, and how divinely placed he was in her journey. Time went by and after an overdue, heartfelt conversation, the friendship they had nurtured for years blossomed into love. In 2021, Tim officially asked Joy to be his girlfriend. From that moment, their bond deepened and they've continued to grow, to support one another, and to love with intention, always finding joy in the little things, and always returning to the place where it all began: the leadership camp that changed everything. Now, surrounded by the people who have supported them throughout the years, they're filled with gratitude and excitement as they celebrate the love story that was written long before we even knew it and step into the next beautiful chapter of our lives together.
