Welcome to our wedding website! We are so excited to share this special journey with you. As we prepare to say "I do", we want to take a moment to express how truly grateful we are to have each of you in our lives. Your love and support mean the absolute world to us, and we can't wait to celebrate our marriage surrounded by the people we cherish most.
Although we both grew up and spent our whole lives in Olmsted Falls, our paths didn’t cross until high school. In the spring of 2016, Joy vividly remembers attending the senior art show and seeing Luke’s beautiful work. At that time, we hadn’t officially met, but we shared mutual friends. To Joy, Luke was a cute, mysterious senior that she admired from afar. For Luke, Joy was a name he’d heard but hadn’t yet connected with a face. Fast forward to the summer of 2017, when we met at a social gathering. We immediately hit it off but little did we know this was just the start of our love story. The next year was spent getting to know each other, with Luke happily tagging along to all of Joy’s senior year activities. In the fall of 2018, we both began our college journey at The Ohio University. Although our college experience was far from typical due to COVID, it led us to lifelong friendships and lots of memories. Luke completed his Bachelor of Communications in just three years, and Joy followed shortly after with her Bachelor of Business Administration, finishing in three and a half years. After graduation, we moved into our first apartment together in Avon, Ohio, where we made our cozy 800-square-foot space feel like home. During that time, we also became dog parents to our sweet River girl. After a year in Avon, we realized that we wanted to be closer to family. In the spring of 2023, we purchased our first home in Olmsted Falls, a convenient seven-minute walk from the Jacobs family and a seven-minute drive from the Munkachys. Our 1926 home, filled with charm and plenty of renovation projects, has become Luke’s personal labor of love. With help from our families, Luke has single-handedly transformed the house, tackling everything from flooring to electrical. With a home and a fenced-in backyard, we decided to add another member to our family and adopted our Sully boy in the summer of 2023. These days, we spend our free time playing with our dogs and working on DIY projects around the house. Over the past 8 years, we have gotten to grow up together and now we are looking forward to growing old together!
On our seven-year anniversary, we went for a walk during a lunch break through one of the parks by our house. We exchanged love letters, a tradition we had started years ago on our anniversary. At the end of Luke’s letter, there was a "P.S. one question...". When Joy looked up, Luke was down on one knee, ready to ask her the biggest question of all.
Decades before we were born, Joy's dad - Mike, and Luke's grandfather - Elmer, were fellow cast members in the play, "The Cain Mutiny Court-Martial" at Clague Playhouse. This story had not come to light until a family get-together about 5 years into our relationship. Mike had somehow not made the connection between the Munkachy he had worked with years ago and Luke Munkachy, as it is a very common last name... Although Luke did not have the pleasure of meeting Elmer, it is a sweet sentiment that both of our families can share memories about the man he was. This story is a true testament to the invisible string that has always tied us and our families together.
