“How I Met Your Mother (and Father)” — The Story of Josie & Devante

To our future kids… this is the story of how we met. It all started with a Bumble match. Josie and Devante were two busy people just looking for a genuine connection — and thanks to fate (and a great algorithm), their paths crossed. They agreed to meet up for their first date at Flatstick Pub — you know, the place with mini golf, beer, and just enough competitiveness to make or break a first impression. Now, Josie had no idea what she was in for. Devante showed up with his contagious smile — the kind that could light up an entire room — and immediately had her laughing. Meanwhile, Devante took one look at Josie and thought, “She’s beautiful, down to earth… you better not mess this up, man.” And then came the game. Mini golf. Josie won — and little did she know, that would be the last time she ever beat Devante in golf. (He still makes sure she remembers.) But the date didn’t end there. Neither of them wanted it to. So, naturally, they went to dinner and bonded over their shared love — or, let’s be honest, obsession — with sushi. Still not ready to call it a night, they found themselves dancing the night away at the Piano Bar, staying until last call. It was one of those rare, perfect nights that you don’t want to end — and apparently, the universe agreed. Because when Devante walked Josie to her car (like a gentleman, of course), he discovered that the parking garage where he parked was closed for the night. His car was locked in. Completely trapped. Josie saw him standing there, laughing at his own bad luck, and instead of saying goodbye, she said, “I can give you a ride home.” He happily accepted — and secretly, they were both excited for those extra 15 minutes together. By the time she dropped him off, they were already texting each other, saying they couldn’t wait for date number two. And, well… the rest was history. “The Proposal” — or, “The One Where Devante Pretended It Was Just a Date” Fast forward three years. By now, they’d shared a million laughs, countless sushi rolls, and more than a few golf games (Josie’s still waiting for her next win). Devante decided to plan a “date day” — some much-needed quality time together in one of their favorite places, Coeur d’Alene. Josie thought it was just another fun day together. They started off, of course, with sushi (tradition), strolled through the farmers market, and looked forward to a “free dinner” at the CDA Resort that one of Devante’s coworkers had supposedly gifted them. (Spoiler: there was no coworker, and definitely no free dinner.) Before dinner, they took a walk along the Coeur d’Alene boardwalk to kill some time. Devante pointed out random houses across the lake in a nervous voice, trying to keep Josie’s attention away from what was really happening — while simultaneously pulling her closer and closer. Little did she know, their best friends, Alex and Sara, were nearby in full disguise — hats, sunglasses, Hawaiian shirts, and binoculars — ready to capture the big moment. Finally, Devante turned to Josie, took her hands, told her how much he loved her, and got down on one knee. Josie said YES! — initially in shock — and then, of course, rolled into full-on joyful tears. After a quick celebratory drink with Alex and Sara, the newly engaged couple parted ways with their friends and headed to Cedars Floating Restaurant for a romantic steak dinner. They spent the evening smiling across the table, soaking in the fact that they were officially engaged, and talking about forever. And That, Our Future Kids… …is the story of how we met, fell in love, and started our forever. It began with a Bumble match, a mini golf victory, and a parking garage mishap — but it turned into a lifetime of laughter, love, and never-ending sushi dates.
