Josiah and I first met at Volusia County Baptist Church in January of 2022. I thought he and his family were first-time visitors, so I went up to his sister, Anna, to introduce myself to be friendly. As we talked, I noticed a tall guy staring at me like he could see into my soul. When he finally spoke, he introduced himself as Anna’s twin brother—something I didn’t actually believe until their parents confirmed it weeks later! Apparently, I left a good impression, because while my family was away in Costa Rica for a month, Josiah confessed later that he kept looking for me at church, only to give up thinking I had been just a passing visitor. When we returned in March to live permanently in the U.S., Pastor Tim told me about a Cross-Trainer trip to Crown College. I was excited for the experience and the chance to get to know some of the other teens better. Once we got checked in, I walked up to my group and noticed someone unfamiliar in the middle of them—it was Josiah! I wasn’t too surprised since Spencer had told me he’d be there, but the look on Josiah’s face when he saw me was priceless—like he’d just seen a ghost. Throughout that trip, I often caught him glancing my way. We didn’t really talk much until an ice tubing activity later in the trip. At one point, I was waiting alone (the only time in that trip I was alone) when Josiah nervously came up and started a conversation. I tried to make it easier by asking him questions, but before long I left with my group… only to be teased endlessly about Josiah the whole ride back to the hotel. And of course, it turned out the Williamsons were staying at the same hotel—so the teasing didn’t stop anytime soon! After the trip, I found Josiah on Instagram and followed him, thinking we might just be friends. Little did I know what that would lead to! One day I left a single emoji on one of his posts, and somehow that man sent back two long messages—asking about our trip and telling me about his. That quickly turned into daily conversations. He was very persistent, and I’ll admit I didn't mind it at all. And the rest, as they say, is history.
