How we met

Love in the time of COVID

We met during a global pandemic! And how does one meet someone during a pandemic? Online of course. Josh caught Trish's eye wearing a lovely Santa cat shirt, so with her wit and charm she made the first move: "So it looks like you're a dog person?" And Josh was hooked! After several weeks of chatting and learning about each other's experience during COVID, we finally decided to meet in person. We both love to cycle - Josh found respite in biking when gyms were closed and Trish used it as a way to stay connected to her family. Given all that was going on during the summer of 2020, a bike ride outside seemed like the ideal date. So, cautiously, both in the sense of the pandemic and with our hearts, we met for a ride, and hit it off from the start. 30 miles, 2 hills, and a dropped chain later we had lunch and beers at Beaches. Neither wanting the date to end... chips and salsa and margaritas at Who Song and & Larry's seemed like an exceptional excuse to keep the date going! Trish's big brother called just to make sure she was safe, since the date was going on 8 hours.

How Josh Proposed

Those who hike together, stay together

On a typical hiking morning, sipping coffee as we are known to do, Trish was researching potential hiking spots. Josh suggested "something with a view" for the hike, while trying to plan out just how he was going to bring the ring, securely, unnoticed. We picked Cape Horn in the Gorge and started getting dressed to go. Knowing a shorts pocket wasn't safe enough and a shared backpack meant Trish would definitely see it, Josh decided to bring his own backpack for the hike. Trish noticed it was not the norm for us to take 2 backpacks and even asked why? "I'm really thirsty today, so I'm going to take mine and an extra water." No alarms seemingly went off. Upon reaching the trailhead, Josh asked if Trish "REALLY needed sunglasses today".... after all it was a somewhat overcast day. And yet she persisted. Feeling that we were nearing the viewpoint, and not having seen another hiker in 30 minutes, Josh began to internally panic about the lack of assistance to record the event. Just as feared, reaching the viewpoint there was nary a soul in sight, beautiful as it was. Josh set out to find a rock, a stick, a..... ANYTHING to help prop up the phone to record. Trish thought all of this was silly and wondered why we weren't just doing the standard selfie picture. Using the additional water bottle brought because Josh was "so thirsty", under the guise of a picture timer, Josh set up his phone to record and approach Trish sitting on the rock wall... The rest is on video.
