Here’s a quick guide to enjoying some of the best views along Lake Michigan, Saugatuck Dunes and Holland State Park are favorites, especially with the iconic Big Red Lighthouse. And if you’re up for a little adventure, the trail from Felt Mansion to the Dunes is an easy, beautiful walk with great lake views.
Windmill Island Gardens and nearby downtown Holland are worth a stroll any time of year, not just during tulip season. It’s one of our favorite places for mini adventures and holds special meaning for us, as we visited with the Aguilar family the day after Joshua proposed.
We’re big fans of Kilwins ice cream, a classic northern spot and a must-do with family for us. We definitely recommend stopping by with your own family. The shop faces a pier and a bridge leading to a lighthouse, a great place to take your ice cream on a summer day. Just watch out, we had our ice creams melt all over our hands faster than we could lick it up once. It was a mess but so fun!
Joshua worked at Infusco shop supplied by Bit of Swiss, the best bakery around. When Raabe tagged along, he’d treat her to a pear tart or almond croissant, her top two favorites that guaranteed one very happy gal. If you enjoy pastries these definitely don't disappoint!
Did you really go to Andrews if you didn’t try this sandwich shop? Here in town we'll say if you're in Berrien you have to go! The subs are a perfect and quick bite. There's a variety of options with gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian alternatives. Joshua’s go-to is the brisket on whole-wheat with garlic sauce. Raabe loves the veggie turkey with curry sauce on gluten-free "wrap-bread". Tell us your order if you go, your pick is basically a personality trait.
