Covid was nearing its end and normalcy was showing signs of returning. Emily and Josh connected through an online dating app, and through many conversations developed a connection through mutual interests in movies, hiking, craft beer, living a life filled with faith, and more. Their first date was at Stone Arch Brew Pub in Appleton. Josh remembers planning their date through text as he was hiking through High Cliff State Park, a place both the Bride and Groom both fondly enjoy. Emily arrived late to the date as she had gotten out of work at Chick-Fil-A later than scheduled and the parking lot was full due to a comedy show also happening that night. They hit it off right off the bat by ordering the same meal, a bison burger and Honey Wheat Beer. Josh and Emily both had their hesitations at first but enough interest to see each other again. Their date lasted well over two hours as they talked about everything from family, faith, movies, and football. Josh drove Emily back up to her car blocks away after the date due to the rain storm that had started while they were inside. Emily and Josh would continue to go on dates every so often, however, Emily was hesitant to get close, as she was uncertain she wanted to stay in Wisconsin and thought about moving back to Indiana. Josh eventually won her heart and they told their families they were dating on Thanksgiving of 2021.
