Amparo doesn't remember the day she met Joshua. She was 5 and Joshua was 8. Both of our mothers were attending a Parent Teacher Association meeting and we, along with Amparo's twin sister Maria, were relegated to a table in the corner to work on our homework. After a few meetings, our mothers discovered we lived down the street from each other. We rode bikes together, played N64 and took a course on how to organize the neighborhood to perform search and rescue during natural disasters and terrorist attacks. After Joshua's mom passed, he moved to Massachusetts. Amparo's family shortly thereafter moved to Washington State. Our families lost touch but still remembered one another. Several years later, against Amparo's advice, Maria found and reached out to Joshua on Facebook. Two years after that, Joshua came to visit the sisters in Washington during a cross country road trip. We remained friends through college. Amparo began taking computer science courses to better understand Joshua's profession and frequently sought help from him on difficult assignments. During the summer both bored and looking for things to do during COVID lock-down, they started a fateful play though of the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a medieval-fantasy RPG video game. During this play-though Joshua realized he had fallen in love and asked Amparo on a virtual date. After some discussion of the long-distance predicament, she accepted. The rest is history and Amparo and Joshua now happily live together in Maryland with their adorable cat Anatevka.
