As most of you know, Joshua and I got married in November of last year. Our wedding day is a little different from most people’s, considering we’re already married, and we’re centering the day around celebrating a union that has already taken place. You may be wondering why we chose to do things in this order, and if so, keep reading… At the beginning of last year, I (Kaitlyn) had an encounter with God. Joshua and I were sitting in our living room, and the topic of creation and the possibility of God’s existence came up. I had never been sure whether I believed in God and had often been indifferent in past conversations about it. But this time was different. I asked a lot of questions and listened to what Josh had to say with an open heart. That night, our discussion went on until maybe 3 o’clock in the morning. I remember lying down that night—or should I say morning—with an overwhelming feeling, almost as if God’s presence was in the room with me. I knew that night my belief had changed. I had been gifted a Bible that I had never opened before, but when I finally did, I knew I wanted to learn more about God. As I read the Bible, I learned that God’s word is living and true. God had revealed Himself to me, and through the undeniable evidence I had been given—both through my personal encounter and through reading the Bible—I placed my faith in Christ. Since then, we both have been growing in our understanding and faith. Back in November, Joshua and I wanted to honor God, and we felt the best way to do that was by joining together in marriage. So, on a random Wednesday night, we got married at the church we attend. We never had a celebration or the giving of wedding bands—but in May, we finally get to do all of that.
