If you ask Josh how we met, he’ll tell you a Hallmark-worthy story about how he offered to fix my broken-down car and we fell in love. While technically that’s true… he tends to leave out a few details. 😂 It all started when Josh saw that my car had broken down and offered to fix it. He later admitted it was because he thought I was cute. 😂 I politely told him I was fine, but that simple conversation sparked days of talking. Not long after, Josh asked me on our first date. On December 17, 2022, he picked me up in his big truck, we listened to country music, and spent the evening walking through the Christmas Village at LOVE Park in Philadelphia. Believe it or not, neither of us walked away thinking, “This is it.” We both figured we had simply made a new friend. Two days later, on my birthday, I woke up to a knock at my door. Sitting on my porch was a huge bouquet of flowers and a birthday card from Josh. I remember thinking how thoughtful it was. A few days later, on Christmas Eve, I was busy baking cookies to hand out to family and friends when Josh offered to come help. He surprised me with an early Christmas present—Eagles tickets! Looking back, I probably should’ve known then he was a keeper… because Eagles tickets are definitely one of the quickest ways to my heart!
Over the next several months, we spent countless hours together going to concerts, Eagles games, and making memories. We quickly became best friends, and before long, our friendship turned into something more. The turning point for me came when we planned a trip to Disney on Ice with our nephews. I have a habit of turning everything into an event, so naturally I planned a Disney-themed sleepover complete with decorations, treats, and all the little details. For the first time in my life, instead of hearing, “You’re doing too much,” I heard, “I found matching Mickey pajamas. Do you like them? I’ll pick them up.” He didn’t just accept the way I loved people—he joined in. That’s when I started falling for him. Josh says he started falling on his birthday weekend. I secretly booked us a cozy getaway in Maryland, decorated our Airbnb, cooked dinner, and tried to make him feel celebrated. Later he told me no one had ever cared for him quite like that or done something so thoughtful for him. Not long after, Josh took me to his hometown of Island Heights, showed me where he grew up, and in one of his favorite places asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course, I said yes. Not long after we started dating, we took a trip to Ocean City with my nephew Austin. While we were walking along the beach, I asked Austin to take our picture. Before he snapped it, I had Josh close his eyes. I quickly wrote, “I love you,” in the sand. When Josh opened his eyes, he smiled, looked at me, and said, “I love you too.” It was the first time we said those three little words to each other, and it’s a memory we’ll always treasure. From then on we were inseparable. Josh drove over an hour every single day just to see me, and we spent every free moment together. We loved surprising each other with thoughtful gifts, spontaneous adventures, and little acts of love—like the time he fixed my sink without me ever even mentioning it needed to be repaired. We booked a lake house with our families, laughed constantly, and quickly realized life was simply better together. One day Josh asked me what was on my bucket list, one thing I’d always dreamed of doing but never had the chance to. Without hesitation, I told him I wanted to swim with dolphins. The very next day, he surprised me by booking us a trip to Cancun so I could finally cross that dream off my bucket list. That’s just who Josh is. He has a way of making my dreams come true.
Before our trip, people kept joking that maybe he’d propose in Cancun. Josh would just laugh. Then one night he handed me his phone to order dinner. After placing the order, I closed the app and accidentally noticed he’d been looking at engagement rings. (I promise I wasn’t snooping, Josh! 😂) My heart could hardly contain the excitement. Then God surprised us in a way neither of us ever expected. For years doctors had told me I might never be able to have children. Becoming a mom was one of the deepest desires of my heart. I remember leaving one appointment in tears and wandering into Hobby Lobby. While praying, I came across a sign that read, “For this child I have prayed.” I bought it in faith, took it home, and for more than eight years kept it in my closet, praying over it and trusting that nothing is impossible with God. A few weeks before our Cancun trip I wasn’t feeling well. I assumed it was another stomach issue, but after some encouragement from a friend, I reluctantly took a pregnancy test. Positive. I couldn’t believe it. After what felt like countless tests and several trips to CVS, every single one was positive. I was going to be a mom!!!!!! Josh was away for work when I found out. He called to ask how the test went, but it’s probably the only time I kept something from him because I couldn’t imagine telling him over the phone. The day before we left for Cancun, I surprised him with a small gift box. Inside was a tiny onesie that said, “Hello Daddy, I can’t wait to meet you!” along with the positive pregnancy test. We both cried tears of joy. Josh also always wanted to be a father.
The next day we left for Cancun. We explored cenotes, swam with dolphins, and made memories we’ll never forget. While we were there, standing on the beach, Josh got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes!
After that, life moved quickly. I moved to New Jersey, wedding planning took a back seat, and together we prepared to become parents. Pregnancy wasn’t easy, and there were moments when doctors filled us with fear. One of the scariest moments came while we were in the hospital waiting for Kinsey to be born. As fear and uncertainty crept in, we stopped and prayed together, placing both my life and Kinsey’s into God’s hands. In that moment, I realized that’s what finding your person is truly about. It’s having someone who, in your darkest moments, points you to Christ. Someone who prays with you, reminds you that you’re never alone, and helps carry you through life’s hardest moments. On February 7, 2024, God answered those prayers as we welcomed our beautiful, healthy daughter, Kinsey, into the world. Watching Josh become a dad has made me fall even more in love with him, and he says watching me become a mom has done the same for him. Becoming parents has challenged us & stretched us, Through every season we’ve learned to keep God at the center of our family and our relationship. Now that Kinsey is a little older, we finally get to celebrate the wedding we’ve always dreamed of with the people we love most. Looking back, our story isn’t just one of love. It’s a story of God’s goodness and faithfulness through every chapter. We are so thankful for all He’s done in our lives, and we can’t wait to see what He has planned next for us and our family. 🤍
