Last summer, we found out that Julia was pregnant - and we were so excited! Having kids was something that we've wanted and, while it wasn't planned, we were elated with the news. We made the tough decision to cancel our big wedding day and instead had a small ceremony in the Superstition mountains with our parents and a few close friends. It was intimate and absolutely beautiful. In February 2021, after 18 hours of labor, we welcomed our daughter Nora Jane. She is everything we could hope for and we are so in love with her. And now we have a lot to celebrate! Our first year of marriage, a baby, and doing our best to survive a world-wide pandemic!
On the morning of December 31, 2019, Josh and Julia were getting ready for an outing at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Julia noticed Josh looked extra fancy that morning and decided she would also dress up nice. Josh played “A Love Supreme” and other favorite love songs while she spent extra time getting ready that morning. At breakfast, Julia took Josh’s arm at some point and noticed he was shaking. She brushed it off as stress or maybe too much caffeine. After an amazing and empowering experience at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, the two visited the nearby Manitou Art Gallery which had an awesome display of bolo ties in the window. They admired the extravagant desert jewelry with the shopkeeper. At one point, she smiled at the couple and said, “You two are very pretty. Like, you’re dressed so beautifully. You’re such a good looking couple.” At the end of their time at Manitou, Josh tried to convince Julia to take a picture in front of an $80,000 painting of Monument Valley, to which Julia argued against. “Come on, she even said we looked nice! We have to get our picture taken!” Julia obliged when Josh suggested that the picture be taken in front of a Sushe Felix painting of UFOs over a busy city. When the lady started taking pictures, Julia held Josh’s arm and noticed the shaking again. Josh turned to Julia and said “I love you. You know, you’re the only one I want, right?” Julia was confused, “What are you talking about?” He continued quoting Beyonce, “You’re the only one I need. Baby, it’s you.” And then he got down on one knee and asked Julia to marry him. She was shocked. The woman taking their pictures was also shocked. The rest was a blur of tears and happiness. Julia said yes and cried and the two celebrated with nachos and champagne at the nearby Plaza Hotel.
