Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo

This is the most direct, but also one of the most expensive ways to get to San Luis Obispo, the main city adjacent to Avila Beach.

Los Angeles to Santa Barbara

The alternative to flying to San Luis Obispo. Santa Barbara is one of the bigger cities on the central coast and is favorite tourist destinations for wine tasting and it's beautiful beaches. However, Santa Barbara is about 2 hours from San Luis Obispo.

Train

The Coast Starlight

Considered one of the most scenic and breathtaking train rides in the United States. The Coastal Starlight train hugs the California coast from San Diego, California to Seattle, Washington. If your cup of tea is sitting back in a lounge car sipping on drinks, looking out at the coast, reading a book, and taking it slow for 4 hours then pay the $43-dollar one-way ticket from Los Angeles or San Diego Union station up to San Luis Obispo Amtrak station. Josh loves taking trains during family vacations all around the world, and the Coastal Starlight is one of his all-time favorites.

Travel Note

Driving

Of course, there is always the option of driving yourself to our wedding venue. If you're travelling up from the South or from Los Angeles, we would suggest starting early to beat the LA traffic. But if you’re thinking of arriving a day early or have plenty of time before you arrive at the venue, consider stopping at a few of our favorite towns and venues. (Attached to this section is the google maps for all the suggested stops you can make) This includes: getting a fresh Danish at the Danish capital of America, Solvang, stopping by for lunch for some Pea Soup at Pea Soup Anderson's, taking a tour around the Madonna Inn, etc. (For more detailed information look at the Things To Do page.)
