Things To Do
Lima is a great place to visit and, more importantly, to eat! In fact, as Sandra often reminds Josh, Peru is the birthplace of her favorite food, the potato, and boasts over 3K varieties. The country's history and waves of immigration have resulted in a unique blend of cuisines (e.g., Nikkei, or Japanese-Peruvian), and several of Lima's restaurants, like Central and Maido, regularly top The World's 50 Best Restaurants list. There are also a number of interesting sites in the Centro Histórico and great shopping and dining in San Isidro, Miraflores, and Barranco, which is more "bohemian."
If you are planning to extend your trip, we highly recommend visiting Cusco and Machu Picchu (and we hope you deal with the altitude better than Josh did his first time...). Sandra also raves about Arequipa, Lake Titicaca, the Nazca Lines, and the "The Jungle" (e.g., Iquitos), but Josh hasn't visited any yet so can't confirm (not least because he's afraid of jungle spiders...)
