Flight
We recommend flying into Dublin Airport (DUB), which offers the most international flight options. Dublin Airport to Redcastle: approximately 3‑hour drive by car. Rental cars are available at the airport. Buses depart directly from Dublin Airport, making bus travel the easiest public transportation option. There are multiple departures throughout the day. We recommend planning for a bus departure approximately two hours after landing to allow enough time to clear immigration, collect luggage, grab breakfast or coffee at the airport, and make your way to the bus stop. Bus from Dublin to Derry: about 4.5 hours, then a 20‑minute car or taxi ride
Flight
Alternatively, guests may fly into Belfast International Airport (BFS): Belfast International Airport to Redcastle: approximately 1.5‑hour drive by car
Train
Please note that there is no train station at Dublin Airport, but frequent airport express buses (such as Dublin Express or Aircoach) make it easy to reach Connolly Station in the city. There is no direct train from Dublin to Derry. Travelers will need to take a train from Dublin to Belfast, then transfer to the Belfast–Derry train. We actually recommend spending a day in Belfast if your schedule allows — it’s a great city and makes the journey even more enjoyable. The closest city to our venue reachable by public transportation from Dublin is Derry (also called Londonderry — and where my dad is from!). From Derry, Redcastle is just a short drive away (about 20 minutes by car or taxi).
Travel Note
Since our wedding is July 9 and our rehearsal dinner is in Donegal on July 8, we strongly recommend planning to fly out by July 6 at the latest if you plan to attend the rehearsal. This allows time to arrive in Ireland, recover from travel, and make your way north without feeling rushed. Most flights from the United States depart at night and land the following morning. Jet lag can be tough when arriving in Ireland, so from personal experience, I recommend taking a short nap soon after landing — just enough to reset and power through the day (without accidentally turning it into bedtime). Planning an extra day makes all the difference and lets you enjoy the journey.
