Shortly after starting medical school in July 2020, Kenny told Josh about this girl in his medical school small group that was going to pick them up for a game of volleyball. Kenny: “I think you two will get along pretty well.” “Get along pretty well,” then became a huge understatement. Although Josh was terrible at volleyball and Jeesoo was fantastic, it turned out that they had more in common than meets the eye. They bonded over oreos, ice cream, IPAs, and anime. They woke up at absurd hours to be the first ones at the rock climbing gym; and they ventured off on unmarked hiking trails. Two adventurous spirits had finally met their match. After a year and a half of friendship and some initial carefulness and hesitation, Jeesoo and Josh finally took a leap and began dating in November 2021. Shortly after, God’s hand seemed to guide their relationship. They shared the exact same rotation schedule for the next year and a half, scrubbing into surgeries together, presenting medical cases to the same teams, and supporting each other through difficult days. They quickly learned they shared a desire to dedicate their lives to be a light for people in their darkest moments. Two years after dating, Jeesoo and Josh applied for their medical residencies through the couples’ match. They prepared their applications, practiced interviews, and sent dozens of emails advocating for each other to programs. Again, Jeesoo and Josh experienced God’s faithfulness as they successfully matched together into top programs for their fields in New York City. Jeesoo is now doing her Internal Medicine residency at Mount Sinai and Josh is doing his Radiation Oncology residency at Memorial Sloan Kettering, just a few miles from each other. And on August 31st in Mount Poconos, Josh proposed and Jeesoo said yes! So yes, Kenny, I would agree. I do think they indeed get along “pretty well.”
