Through God's kindness & common grace of tech and dating apps, Josh & Heidi met online while Josh was visiting his family in North Carolina. Josh told Heidi that he actually didn’t live close & was a pastor in Indianapolis but long distance wasn’t a deal breaker for him though he would understand if it was for her. She responded "I believe I'm not called to a geographical location but to a husband.” Josh knew then that she was different than others. Heidi, new to a dating app, was intrigued by a pastor with tattoos & love for the Florida Gators, who also displayed a clear love for the Lord. For the 5 years following her salvation, she had been praying for a husband who loved the Lord, His church & wanted to faithfully build a family on this foundation. Many tear filled prayers, conversations of desiring a faithful man, dates & relationships that didn’t end up in what she longed for led her to a place of feeling like singleness was Gods calling on her life, but she continued to pray & continued to pursue the local church to faithfully serve God’s people while she patiently waited. Then, one fall night after she swiped back on Josh, he messaged her & she could tell through the next few days of deep conversations, something was different & she couldn’t wait to meet this ginger pastor. On their first Facetime date (which lasted 6 hours) Josh recognized all of Heidi's beliefs & gifts and immediately stopped their conversation to ask, "do you want to be a redheaded power couple?" As the night went on, they decided that they wanted to continue to move forward in dating & getting to know each other in their own settings, but wondered how they could be around each other with so many miles in between. The plan was for Heidi to have an extended visit in the beginning of 2023 to see if her life & Josh's ministry in Indianapolis would be compatible. Then tragedy struck Josh’s life which ended up bringing about a blessing in a way only God can do. Josh's dad passed away which brought him back to North Carolina for another extended visit. It was there, in the midst of this tragedy & pain, that Josh (and his family & church) got to see what a tremendous blessing Heidi would be for that moment and, as God would hopefully allow it, for the rest of his life. During the week of Josh’s Dad’s memorial service, Josh wanted to meet Heidi in person so they planned their first date of coffee then lunch to follow. The conversation at coffee lasted 2 hours and it was in these moments that Heidi knew this was the man God had for her. For Josh, it was that day and days to follow that he knew this was the one he’d been praying for, for many years. After coffee, Josh & Heidi drove to run a quick errand because they wanted to keep their conversation going. When that errand finished, Josh asked Heidi if she wanted to meet his mom. She reluctantly said yes & was sure this was a set up, but she realized it was just an off the cuff decision that turned out better than she could have imagined. Upon meeting his mom, brother, sisters, brother in laws, & all the nieces & nephews, Heidi was welcomed with warmth & love, and it was in these interactions that Josh’s mom invited Heidi to come to the memorial service that weekend. With hesitation but deep conviction that she should support Josh, Heidi went & was able to comfort & care for Josh & his family and meet a majority of Josh’s church members. Even his church knew something was different, with Dwayne (Josh’s co-pastor) saying “this is the one Josh is going to marry” after meeting Heidi. From that week on Josh & Heidi were only apart for 10 days, with trips back & forth between IN & SC. It was in these trips that their relationship grew deeper & Josh (who had originally planned to propose on Dec 30th) knew that he needed to propose sooner & didn’t want to waste anymore time. So on December 12th, Josh surprised Heidi with a ring & asked her to be that red-headed power couple he had asked her on their 1st date.
