Their story began in Madison, Wisconsin, where two separate paths happened to cross at exactly the right time. Joshua had recently moved there to work at Epic, and about a year later, Erika relocated to begin veterinary school at UW–Madison. After a few months, they connected on Hinge, both taking a chance on what turned out to be their very first date through the app. From the start, there was an undeniable ease between them. Conversation flowed naturally, and it quickly became clear that their connection was something meaningful and rare. It didn’t take long for both of them to realize that this connection was special. They bonded over a shared love of chicken wings, Erika, proudly from Buffalo, New York, and Joshua, a devoted enthusiast, as well as a friendly (and ongoing) rivalry in ping pong, complete with a running tally of every match. Beyond these shared interests, they discovered a deeper connection rooted in mutual support, shared ambition, and a genuine sense of comfort in each other’s presence. Madison became the place where their relationship truly grew. Together, they built a life, adopting a dog, forming lasting friendships, and creating a community that would always feel like home. They spent many weekends in Minnesota with Joshua’s family, who welcomed Erika warmly (and kept them well fed), and enjoyed vacations with Erika's family filled with laughter and time spent together. When it was time for the next chapter, Joshua followed Erika to Fort Collins, Colorado, where she began her internship at CSU. Soon, they will begin yet another adventure, relocating to Gainesville, Florida as Erika starts her residency in diagnostic imaging. Through every move and milestone, they have remained constant in their support for one another. What began as a simple first date has grown into a partnership defined by love, resilience, and excitement for the future ahead.
