Our love story began in Starkville, back in 2017. We met at our school newspaper, The Reflector. At the time, Josh was a lowly writer and Emmie was the editor-in-chief. Josh started to text Emmie, but was quickly shut down. However, Josh persisted over the summer and the two began talking every day. As school resumed Emmie continued to be wary of Josh’s advances, but eventually agreed to go on a date to see one of their favorite artists, Bon Iver, in Birmingham. After spending more time together and both realizing how much they valued each other, Josh asked Emmie to be his girlfriend. We continued to work together at the school paper and grew closer throughout the school year. After a brief stint of long-distance over the summer we were reunited and our love for one another continued to grow. As we began to think about the future, it was hard to imagine life without our best friend: the person who is there when you are sick in bed, the person who is there to scoop the rock-solid ice cream, the person you pick up for church, the person who is able to hold you accountable, but also encourage you to pursue your goals. As the semester drew to a close Josh was frantically searching for a job that would keep him close to Emmie, but also allow them both to pursue their passions. However, like everything, our lives were on God’s time table and not ours. God provided a perfect job only a month after Josh’s graduation only two hours away from Emmie; talk about answered prayers! On February 21st, with ring in hand, Josh surprised the bed-ridden Emmie who was suffering from a stomach bug in Starkville. Emmie was so shocked that Josh was there in person she even forgot to say yes initially. However, she quickly recovered with a “Yes!” We are so excited to spend the rest of our lives together, honoring God with our marriage, and seeing where He will lead us.
