The Story of Us

From Dairy Queen to His Queen

Regardless of going to school together for many years, this shy and reserved guy managed to fly under my radar until one day where hot eats and cool treats brought us together and he started working at Dairy Queen with me. Once realizing how shy Josh was, I took it upon myself to harass him endlessly every chance I was given. Which worked well for me as I later found out he is the king of harassing and we became fast friends for the remainder of high school. There was always an ease with our friendship, it seemed to come naturally. We got to experience those core memories together like going to prom and graduating. But we were also kids and there was always the hint of something more to our relationship that we were probably both too immature to handle correctly and it would cause conflict in our relationship. So inevitably, life took us in different directions for a while after that. When we reconnected in our twenties it was like no time had passed. The spark that was always between us was even stronger and we reconnected at a time where we were both finally ready to give this a try. I won't bore you with all of the struggles and personal growth that two adults have to do when they come together after years of living two very separate lives and the emotional maturity is at an all time low. We all know how it goes. I only bring it up because that's where I think Josh and I get to be so proud of our relationship and where we are today. A few years in, we broke up for a few months, and when we decided to come back together it was at that moment that we became the truest of partners to one another. This relationship stopped being about the fairy tale of those two kids back in Mifflin County and became about these two grown adults who want the best for each other both in and out of the relationship. It’s exciting that we get the playful and funny side of our relationship that brought us together back in high school, but now we also have become true teammates that do the work and have our love to show for it. We've become a family with our fur babies, starting with our sweet Madeline and now with our trouble twins Bowie and Oates. In November of 2022, Josh got down on one knee with our kiddos by his side, in front of our Christmas tree, and asked me to be his wife. My favorite thing about his proposal was that he knew I'd want it to be small and intimate. I do wish he would've let me change out of my gym clothes first, but hey you can't have it all. And we certainly feel like we do. So we close the book on the fairy tale that is these punk kids at the local Dairy Queen and head into our lives together as husband and wife. While we are both grown and dare I say hardened a bit by the world, I love that if you were to ask us both to describe our relationship in one word we would both say "fate". And in case you were wondering, we are in fact still harassing each other.
