At 6 foot 6 inches, the tall Jewish guy was hard to miss. Josh knew everyone in Athens (Go Dawgs!), which meant he had the drink hookup in every bar. I always noticed him looking over, and he’d offer to buy me a drink. Of course, as a broke college student, I never turned down a free drink—who would? We'd chat for a bit, then I'd go on with my night, hanging with friends. Our paths kept crossing, but he never had the guts to ask me out. Fast forward a year, and I was about to head off to Tel Aviv for my study abroad. It took me traveling across the world for Josh to finally work up the courage to ask me out. I wasn’t really expecting much—I mean, I was on the other side of the world! But when I returned, he asked me to go on a date. That was February 2020. Then, of course, COVID happened, and the whole world went into lockdown. Quarantine was hard, but texting wasn’t. We started talking on his birthday in May 2020, and we never stopped. I quickly realized Josh was the kindest, most gentle giant I’d ever met. I'd stay up until 4 in the morning talking to him, my heart racing, because for the first time, I could actually see a future with someone. Our first date was June 29, 2020, at Ahi Poke, this little hole-in-the-wall spot in Athens. We sat in his car for two hours just talking. He didn’t even kiss me that night, but I knew he was special. Over the summer, we visited each other in Athens a few more times before becoming official. By the time we hit the one-month mark of dating, I knew Josh was the one. He reminded me of all the best qualities that my dad had, and even though my dad isn’t with us anymore, I felt like he had somehow sent Josh to me. Since then, we've adopted our sweet boy, Moose, and even become homeowners! Then, on our anniversary in August 2024, we went back to Athens, to Ben Burton Park, a place we’d often visit in college. And that’s where Josh popped the question. It took some bribery in the beginning, but his persistence proved worthwhile!
I first knew of Becca back in high school. We went to rival schools, so I’d see her around at Riverwood school dances. I thought she was beautiful, but we never really talked—I was too shy and smitten. After high school, I kept seeing Becca around through mutual friends. Eventually, when I came to Athens, to visit friends, our paths crossed more frequently. When I transferred to UGA, things became much easier. One night, at a Sheck Wes concert (because obviously, that’s where all great love stories begin), Becca and I started talking more, and I quickly realized her personality was just as beautiful as she was. It was impossible not to be drawn to her. I had a pretty sweet deal with the bars in town, and one of them happened to be a favorite of hers, so I found myself there a lot more often. I’d bring her and her friends drinks and chat with them, but, I only wanted to talk to her. One day, she mentioned she was going to study abroad. I was devastated. When she went abroad, we exchanged a few DMs, and I decided to send her something in the mail for her birthday. I promised her that if she got the package, she had to go on a date with me when she got back. She agreed, but unfortunately, the package took about six weeks to get to her in Israel. Then COVID hit, and her study abroad got cut short, so suddenly, a date could happen much sooner than I expected! We started talking every day on my birthday in May of 2020, and those conversations never stopped. I decided to stay in Athens for the summer, and Becca came up to visit a few times. Despite the world being on lockdown, and Becca giving me COVID (twice!), those visits were the best and most memorable parts of that time for me. The past five years have been nothing short of amazing. I’m marrying the love of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited for our future together. Here’s to the next 90 years together, building a life filled with love, laughter, and our sweet dog, Moose.
