Flight
SUGGESTED ARRIVAL DATE: We recommend arriving in Catania by Wednesday, May 29th or Thursday, May 30th. This will allow you to explore Catania for a couple of days before heading north to Taormina in time for the wedding festivities. Taxi from Catania Fontanarossa Airport to the city of Catania will take approximately 20-30 minutes and will cost on average €25.00.
Travel Note
There are multiple high-speed buses that travel to/from Catania Airport and Taormina. It is very easy to catch one at a reasonable price of €7.00. The central point of departure and arrival in Taormina is the bus station located in Via Pirandello. Once in Taormina, there are no visitor cars allowed at the top of the city. You may call for a taxi if necessary.
Travel Note
If time allows, we recommend our guests spend a few days exploring in and around Catania, an ancient port city, the second largest in Sicily, that sits at the foot of Mt. Etna and provides an array of South Mediterranean delights including a fascinating open-air fish market! Taormina is less than an hour away by car. Taxis will cost approximately €90.00 (one way). There is a direct bus service between Catania (from the bus station on Via Liberta) and Taormina (a few minutes walk from the city centre) provided by the Etna Trasporti bus company. In the morning and late afternoon the bus runs every hour. Around noon and during the siesta, the frequency is lower. A ride from Catania to Taormina takes about 1h10min and costs €4.90 per person (one way).
Rental Car
If you decide to rent a car, you will be required to park at the base of Taormina for a daily fee. There are multiple car parks in Taormina for different access points. Porta Catania Parking is the closest entrance, located on the same side as the Duomo di Taormina. The elevator will take you directly to the city centre. Lumbi Parking offers a free shuttle bus service all day to and from the centre of Taormina. Porta Pasquale Parking is the most recently built car park, located just 700 feet from the arch of Porta Messina, but can hold only up to 75 cars.
Hotel
There are plenty of very charming and small hotels around the city center. The best rates can be found by looking at expedia.com, booking.com, or hotels.com located near the Piazza del Duomo.
