Back in 2022, it was the app where people shared creativity, laughter, and little glimpses of their everyday lives. And somehow, in the midst of endless scrolling and fleeting moments, our forever began. I’ll admit it now, I was the one who made the first move. One evening, I stumbled upon a video of Joey speaking Spanish with his best man, Dawlton. I couldn’t help but pause and think, “Wait… how is this very fair-skinned guy speaking Spanish so well?” Naturally, my curiosity was piqued. His profile didn’t reveal much, but one day he went live and that’s when something in me just knew I had to join. I asked where he was from, and he said his family was from Colombia. Of course, I had to tease him, saying, “No, no, no… that’s not Colombian Spanish!” He laughed, that warm, easy kind of laugh that stays with you, and explained that he worked in construction, learning Spanish from the hardworking men beside him every day. Somehow, that made perfect sense and it made me smile. He mentioned he was living in Texas for work and was heading to a Friendsgiving dinner, so our first chat was brief. I didn’t have the courage to message him right away, but on Thanksgiving Day, something in me nudged my heart to reach out. I sent a simple, slightly corny message “I like your laugh.” Who would’ve thought that one small line would spark something so beautiful? From that moment, our connection deepened. We bonded over being two Californians at heart, our shared love for the quiet of country life, and our dreams of building a home, raising a family (which came sooner than expected!), and creating a life grounded in love, laughter, and faith. And now, here we stand living two dreams at once. Becoming husband and wife, and being blessed with the family we prayed for.
